KUALA LUMPUR, April 29, 2011 – The provisionally certified green office tower, Menara Binjai, will be installing Carrier Corp.’s state-of-the-art EvergreenTM 23XRV tri-rotor variable speed screw chillers to help reduce electricity consumption and the impact of building operations on the environment. Carrier Corp., a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), is a world leader in high technology heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions, improving the world around us through engineered innovation and environmental stewardship.
Carrier’s Evergreen 23XRV chiller is a leading efficiency chiller, with energy efficiency that is 40 percent better than industry standard. Energy efficient equipment, including the Evergreen chiller, is one of the factors that helped Menara Binjai receive provisional certification under the Green Mark Gold rating system from Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority as well as Malaysia’s Green Building Index. According to the developer, Khor Joo Saik Sdn. Bhd., the Menara Binjai building is expected to be the first dedicated office tower in Malaysia to receive both certifications.
Scheduled for completion in late 2011, Menara Binjai has been designed from inception for energy conservation and sustainability. The office tower complies with stringent environmental regulations and implements cutting-edge green building concepts and requirements for office
“We decided from the start that the design, features and equipment incorporated into the tower would be green in nature to reduce its environmental impact wherever possible,” said Chua Guan-Hock, Director, Khor Joo Saik Sdn. Bhd. “We trust the brand and technology of Carrier. Our research and the recommendations of our consultants confirmed that Carrier offers the most advanced technology in green chillers. We wanted the most advanced and efficient chillers for Menara Binjai to help lower electricity consumption and save costs for all concerned in the long run.”
The Evergreen 23XRV chiller, which will be installed at Menara Binjai, is an innovative commercial air conditioning product that distinguishes itself with extraordinary performance in energy efficiency, quality, and low operational cost. In combination with Menara Binjai’s other green features, the Evergreen chiller allows up to 25 percent savings on electricity and airconditioning consumption, according to Ranhill Consulting Sdn. Bhd., the mechanical and electrical engineering and green consultant for the Menara Binjai project.
Mr. Leong Chee Khuan, General Manager, Carrier Malaysia Group is delighted to see the Evergreen 23XRV chiller being recognized by the office tower. “As a solution provider to green and sustainable buildings, we are pleased that Menara Binjai chose Carrier to support their innovative design. We believe this project will serve as a prominent example of how Carrier’s high efficiency chillers can contribute to sustainable building designs,” said Leong.
Instead of conventional air-conditioning, Menara Binjai uses a centralized water-chilled airconditioning system with Carrier’s individual air handling units on each floor and Carrier’s high efficiency chillers. Energy is efficiently utilized even when operating at partial loads. The system is also equipped with VAV (variable air volume) boxes to provide flexible zonal control so that air-conditioning for whole or partial floors can easily be extended beyond normal working hours.
Other key green features of the building include double glazed low-E insulated windows for optimum heat and sound insulation, high-speed estination-based lifts, energy-saving light fittings with daylight sensors, water efficient sanitary fittings, garden terraces every third floor, and a sky garden on an upper level.
Carrier’s strong portfolio of sustainable building system solutions range from green building consultancy and design, energy efficient air conditioning ystems, and cutting-edge building automation systems to energy management services for both new construction and existing buildings.
Carrier is also strengthening its capabilities in designing and installing customized air conditioning systems though the establishment of its AdvanTE3C Solutions Center, AdvanTE3C Solutions Center, a virtual group of experts focused on developing innovative, customer-specific solutions in heat recovery, variable frequency technology, central heating, thermal storage, water source heat pump systems, airside, and other technologies.
