SERI AUSTIN BRINGS CHEER TO HANDICAPPED AND MENTALLY DISABLED IN PRE-CNY VISIT

Bringing festive cheers to the underprivileged prior to CNY 2018

 

 

07 February 2018 – UMLand Seri Austin brought early Chinese New Year cheers to the residents of Persatuan Kebajikan Orang-orang Istimewa, homes for the handicapped and mentally disabled in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration. Leading the entourage was Mr KK Wong, Chief Executive Officer cum Acting Group Director of UMLand Townships with 30 staffs brought along goodies and set of lunch purchased from Marrybrown restaurant for at least 50 residents of the centre aged between 20 and 50.

A contribution of RM5,000 was presented to the home’s advisor Ms Saraswati Letchumanan in support of the home’s daily operations and necessities. In keeping with tradition, ang pow and mandarin oranges were given to all the residents to wish them good health and happiness. They were also treated to a clown performance, mascot, magic show, singing and dancing before sharing a meal of Marrybrown fried chicken, nuggets, and whipped potato assisted by their guardians and the rest of the Seri Austin’s team.

The annual corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative main objective among other is to reach out to the less fortunate members of society especially during the festive occasions. In addition, it is to promote a spirit of giving and volunteerism among employees and serves as a platform for them to connect with other members of the community. “The visit was organised not only to spread joy or spend quality time but part of an effort to let them know they are not forgotten during the festive season,” said KK Wong.

Established in 1992, the Persatuan Kebajikan Orang-Orang Istimewa which is located in Kempas Johor Bahru is currently shelters about 50 handicapped and mentally disabled members aged 20 years and above. The non-profit organisation was set up for the purpose of providing support and basic necessities such as food and medicine to the disabled who have no immediate family.
