IJM Land continues to provide shelter and to uplift the lives of less fortunate members of Malaysian society
Seremban, 18 December 2017 – As the year is coming to an end, IJM Land seeks to conclude 2017 by continuing its journey in uplifting the lives of underprivileged families through its annual home rehabilitation programme – returning a newly-renovated and rehabilitated home to Mr. Jakumar A/L Supramaniam and his family. The 38-year-old salesman – together with his wife and three children – who still pays a monthly loan of RM 350 to the bank, has been living in a house with constant leaking roofs, clogged toilets, broken furniture and no proper tables and chairs for his family to dine nor for his children to study. The family spend their days and nights resting and sleeping in a living room with a broken glass door that cannot be locked, making it unsafe for the family. Thus it was truly a blissful day for Mr. Jakumar and his family being chosen as the fortunate recipient of this year’s myHome programme – an annual Home Rehabilitation Programme by IJM Land initiated in line with the Ministry of Housing and Local Government’s “House Build” programme in celebrating World Habitat Day since 2010. Happiness and gratitude were evident on their faces as they were handed the certificate of completion to their newly renovated and restored home by Mr Leong Fook Yew, General Manager of IJM Land Berhad, during a special handover ceremony witnessed by special guest Encik Mustafal Bakri bin Mohd Yusof, Pegawai Kebajikan Masyarakat Daerah Seremban, representing YB Dato’ Norhayati Binti Omar, Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Bertindak Kebajikan, Pembangunan Wanita dan Keluarga, Exco & Dun Kuala Pilah, and Encik Mohamad bin Hapil, Pengarah Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat Negeri Sembilan.

“It is IJM Land’s dream to be able to tap into different ways in extending our hand to the community in which we are living in, and giving back to them. IJM Land has various programmes dedicated for the community and throughout the years, myHome programme has become one of our core CR (Corporate Responsibility) initiatives as it allows us to build communities and cater to the basic human rights – providing a safe and comfortable shelter for the less fortunate members of our society. We hope that by giving families better homes, we can help them take the first step to rebuild their lives and move forward. Mr. Jakumar is a hardworking man, giving his best as he works during the day at the carpet shop to make ends meet for his wife and three young children who still have a long future that awaits them. We would want to lighten the burden of this family by providing them with a proper home for the young generation to grow. It is also a home which is safe, secure and comfortable for the family to reside,” added Mr Leong.

IJM Land carried out extensive repair work on the home which includes repairing the ceiling grid system and replaced damaged ceiling boards, replacing new doors around the house, redoing the toilets by hacking off and replace new sewerage piping lay to existing manhole, installing a WC seating in toilet, painting the whole house, and checking all the wiring then repairing it where necessary to ensure their safety. The total cost of repairs and refurbishment works came up to an estimated RM25,000 with contribution from esteemed partners, Ko-Lit Construction Trading Sdn Bdn, Chan Pui Iron Works, Jotun (M) Sdn Bhd, Golden Hover Group of Companies and Midas Touch PTL. In its seventh year, IJM Land’s Home Rehabilitation programme has successfully restored and rehabilitated more than eight homes for underprivileged families across Malaysia since 2010, including Pulau Pinang, Johor, Sabah and Negeri Sembilan. The myHome programme demonstrates IJM Land’s strong commitment to ‘Bringing Life to Ordinary Spaces’ by elevating the standard of living and quality of life in the communities in which it operates, in line with the developer’s motto ‘We Make Good Better’.
