Early this month in Johor Bahru, Sunway Property in partnership with EcoKnights, welcomed Joseph Y. Yun, the US Ambassador to Malaysia, to Sunway Iskandar to celebrate the World Environment Day (W.E.D.).
Ambassador Yun, his wife, Dr. Melanie Billings-Yun, and ten delegates participated in the #GoGreenLah! cycling expedition from Putrajaya to Singapore and made a pit stop at Sunway Iskandar for the celebration.
Forty per cent of Sunway Iskandar town is reserved as green space with a total of 700 acres of equatorial rainforest integrating into the township with natural elements such as the emerald lake, lush green forest, Pendas River and Straits of Johor.
Sarena Cheah, Managing Director of Property Development Division for Malaysia and Singapore said, “We have also recently organised Sunway Discovery Walk held at Sunway Resort City with more than 500 participants to commemorate W.E.D.”
This year, 75,000 trees across the 1,800-acre township were planted. Six different types of fruit trees were planted to give back to the community around the Emerald Lake Garden.
More than 1,500 fish contributed by Sunway staff and working partners were released into the tranquil Emerald Lake.
An education corner was established by EcoKnights at the sales gallery to provide green education and sustainable activities for the public.
RM 60,000 was presented to EcoKnights and the Malaysian Environmental NGO (MENGO) to drive more green initiatives.
“I commend Sunway Property and EcoKnights for this joint effort in supporting sustainable development and promoting environmental awareness. This project is a good example of how a responsible developer can benefit both the community and the planet,” said Ambassador Yun.
