- Sunway City KL only township to win MGBC’s Top 10 Green Building Awards

25 June 2019, Bandar Sunway – Master Community Developer, Sunway Property bagged two awards last weekend for its excellence in the real estate industry. Sunway City KL was the only township honoured at the Malaysia Green Building Council’s (MGBC) “Top 10 Green Buildings of the Decade Awards” at a ceremony which was held on June 22 in conjunction with MGBC’s 10th Anniversary. For the “Top 10 Green Buildings of the Decade Awards,” Ministry of International Trade and Industry Deputy Minister YB Dr.Ong Kian Ming and Malaysia Green Building Council (MGBC) Organising Chairman Michael Ching Chee Hoong presented the award to Sunway Berhad Property Development Division Central Region Senior General Manager Ong Chin Teck who received the award on behalf Sunway Berhad. The winners were selected by a Master Jury panel comprising, from the associations of buildings professionals and are deemed to have significantly impacted the build environment in Malaysia over the past decade.
Lauded by former Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew to be a masterpiece that has transformed “wasteland into wonderland,” Sunway City KL incorporates award-winning world-class components and is now habitat to 140 species of flora and fauna and is now an economic driver, welcoming 42 million visitations yearly and is home to 200,000 people. The township is also Malaysia’s first sustainable township as certified by the Green Building Index, as well as the winner of two FIABCI Prix d’Excellence as well as three FIABCI Malaysia awards. It was also the nation’s first low-carbon city as awarded by the Malaysian Institute of Planners.
For the BCI Asia Top 10 Awards, Sunway Property Development Division Central Region Executive Director Chong Sau Min received the award on behalf of Sunway Berhad. The BCI Asia Top 10 Awards recognises excellence and success for firms in the region and beyond. The awards are given to the ten leading design and development enterprises in seven key Asian markets, namely Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam who have made the greatest contribution to the built environment in the prior year.
