Redefining interior design and reinventing home decor for the masses

Kuala Lumpur, 9 August — The 15th  annual Home Design and Interior Exhibition (HOMEDEC) ties up with the inaugural REKA Interior Exhibition (RiX), a part of the first REKA Design Week 2017, themed “Design Infinity – No Boundaries”. To be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 19 to 22 October, RiX is Malaysia’s first curated design showcase of interior design, products and objects. The Interior Design exhibition is inspired by the products not the structure. The pioneer exhibition is uniquely tailored for interior designers by interior designers. RiX’s overarching aim is to further stimulate the constantly evolving interior design industry, a major contributor to the Malaysian economy, as the nation seeks to be a significant regional player in the knowledge economy. RiX will feature local and global exhibitors representing leading design brands.

Mr Ooi Boon Seong, the Vice President of the Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers (MIID), and Mr Lai Siew Hong, a Council Member of MIID, are the appointed joint curators of RiX. As the creative custodians of the RiX, the curators’ role is to harmonise elements of the exhibition for visitors to fully experience the concepts on display. The aim is to inspire them to adopt these innovative ideas for their design solutions. Curating the exhibition space also allows the featured brands and suppliers to showcase design driven products, while providing a comprehensive overview of excellence and innovation in design. The RiX design directions echo the REKA Design Week 2017 (RDW) theme, which is derived from the abstract concept of design having no limits, while pointing towards the vast possibilities that will be present and explored at RDW. The concept of infinity can also be applied to the search for practical, theoretical and theological solutions. This suggests that problem-solving methods and solution options are infinite and can be derived from the event.

The time is ripe for this exciting collaboration between both organisations dedicated to excellence in design through REKA Interior Exhibition (RiX). MIID Reka Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers (MIID), in representing the Interior Design fraternity, is honoured to work with a renowned and established company such as C.I.S Network Sdn Bhd,” said Ar. Chris Yap, President of MIID.

RiX was conceptualised with the aim of promoting innovative Interior Design products and industry services, as part of REKA Design Week 2017. Looking at the bigger picture, we want to recognise excellence in  delivery  by  designers,  encourage  networking  and  exchange  of  knowledge,  as  well  as  provide opportunities for exhibitors to showcase their innovativeness and products on a regional level.  I hope this will be a milestone and a start of bigger things to come for both”, Yap added.

RDW, organised by MRSB, also includes RIDA, the MIID REKA Conference 2017, the REKA Design Week Gala Dinner, and the Asia Pacific Space Designers Association General Assembly (APSDA) 2017. For more information and updates on HOMEDEC and RiX, log on to www.homedec.com.my and www.rixmalaysia.com
