IJM Land returns to provide better quality of life for chosen underprivileged family in Seremban
Seremban, 26 November 2018 – IJM Land’s annual Home Rehabilitation Programme (myHome) returned a newly renovated home today to a disadvantaged family, Mr. Pang Wai Keong and his family at Kampung Baru Rahang, uplifting the standard of living and quality of life to the family in the community of Seremban. Marking its’ ninth year, the myHome programme, one of the company’s core Corporate Responsibility has this year reached out to a 54-year-old visually-impaired man who has been facing difficulties with his limited household income and destitute lifestyle. Mr. Pang, together with his wife and two daughters reside in his father’s house for 36 years and obtain the family’s meager income from selling drinks at home, whereas his wife – trying to lessen the burden of her husband – is a dishwasher at a nearby restaurant. With limited funds, Mr. Pang is unable to make ends meet for their daily necessities or even to manage any repairs in their home.

Thus, it was truly a blissful day for Mr. Pang and the family for being chosen as the fortunate recipient of this year’s Home Rehabilitation programme – an annual programme by IJM Land initiated in line with the Ministry of Housing and Local Government’s “House Build” programme in celebrating World Habitat Day since 2010. Happiness and gratitude were evident on their faces as they were handed the certificate of completion to their newly renovated and restored home by Dato’ Hoo Kim See, Senior General Manager (Central Region) of IJM Land Berhad, during a special handover ceremony witnessed by special guests Yang Berhormat Puan Nicole Tan Lee Koon, Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Bertindak Hal Ehwal Wanita, Keluarga dan Kebajikan, Exco & Adun Bukit Kepayang; Yang Berhormat Tuan Cha Kee Chin, Ahli Parlimen Rasah; Yang Berhormat Tuan Gunasekaren A/L Palasamy, Adun Seremban Jaya; along with Encik Mohamad bin Hapil, Pengarah Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat Negeri Sembilan.
“We saw the plight that Mr Pang and his family was in, and after further discussion and inspection we made the decision to help this family, as we feel they need this boost of help and give them the silver lining: a hope to betterment for the family,” said Dato’ Hoo at the Handover Ceremony. Throughout these nine years, IJM Land has successfully adopted and revamped homes around Malaysia and provided less fortunate families a better living environment with their signature CSR programme. Thus, this day brings utmost delight to Mr. Pang and his family as they were chosen as recipients for this year’s Home Rehabilitation programme. “As a property developer, this is one of the ways we can extend and reach out to the less fortunate by providing the essential shelter and we hope that by giving disadvantaged families better homes, we can help them take that first step to rebuild their lives and are well taken care of,” said Dato’ Hoo.
“Each year with the Home Rehabilitation programme, we would receive massive support from our contractors and suppliers, serving as a key initiative for connecting with and instilling a culture of corporate responsibility among our business associates. This year has been a great success for IJM Land and it brings us such joy to present this home as we trust this would not only improve the living conditions of the family but to also bring about change and enhance the quality of the residential environment around Seremban area,” he explained further.
IJM Land carried out extensive repair works on the home, which include repairing and replacing timber plank walls and ceiling boards, painting the external walls, installing high-chain link fencing for the family’s safety purposes, reconstructing the front drain and relay wiring for lighting, fans and switches and other repairs to ensure their fundamental needs. The total cost of repairs and refurbishment works came up to an estimated RM 50,000 with contribution from esteemed partners Pembinaan Duta Idaman Sdn Bhd, Golden Hover, Jotun Paints (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Chan Pui Iron Works, Bagan Prinsip, Emas Bestari Sdn Bhd, SYP Sdn Bhd, Luck Kee Construction Sdn Bhd, Pakat Makmur Construction, Tat Sheng Trading & Construction, Wing Hong Coating Sdn Bhd.
