True love and passion for animals know no bounds or boundaries…
Every year, we hear cases of animal abuse by humans, in particular of stray dogs. Some of these street canines are often abandoned by their owners and are left wandering the neighbourhoods on their own. Left alone to fend for themselves, they gradually turn to scavenging for foods. Ultimately, they are put down by the relevant authorities (i.e. municipal councils) as they are deemed a social nuisance and posed health threats. It is quite heart-wrenching to watch a helpless creature suffering in silence as we go about our personal affairs. What would you do if were to witness a poor animal in distress or in dire need of assistance? Would you look away and pretend nothing ever happened or would you lend a helping hand?
For a young Malaysian boy, his only thoughts were to save the life of an animal. The boy in question Kishen Raj went all out to save a puppy at Tasik Taman Jaya recently. It was a nice and sunny day like any other. As Kishen Raj was taking a stroll by the lakeside at Taman Jaya accompanied by his mother, all of a sudden, a dog was heard wailing and crying for help. The sounds apparently came from the lakeside embankment, adjacent to the water’s edge. A little dog was trapped in a ledge by the banks of the lake. Although the lake has shallow waters, the ledge itself is quite steep and is inaccessible without ropes or ladders. Nevertheless, little Kishen wasted no time in finding a rope to climb straight down the ledge and going to the puppy’s aid. He literally risked his own life in order to save the life of another. It was a heroic act indeed from Kishen, and his valiant effort deserve much commendation. Imagine if all kids were to emulate Kishen’s fine example.
Yet how many of us actually possess the courage to perform the selfless and unconditional deed that he did? So thank you Kishen for being a Good Samaritan, and kudos to your family for such a touching and heart-warming story. As fellow human-beings, we should all take pride in our noble efforts as well as respective sacrifices in creating a more empathetic and compassionate society. So let us spread greater love and kindness among all living things. As the great and magnanimous Mahatma Mohandas Gandhi once proclaimed, “The greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” – HFM
