As we celebrated moms the world over, let us not forget the countless sacrifices and contributions of fathers, single dads, grandparents, and also our forefathers. A mother’s work may never be done, but a father’s job is equally as challenging and cumbersome as well. In addition to being natural-born leaders, fathers are often a towering figure in many families. They are often perceived as the epitome of strength and fortitude within most households. The father is also viewed as the caretaker and breadwinner, whilst the mother is the caregiver and homemaker. Fathers are generally revered as a symbol of strength, and are worshipped for their unwavering passion and focus towards their goals and commitment in life.

Fathers literally shield and protect their family members from calamities and adversities, be it physical or economical. Many extended families also encompass immediate members as well as distant relatives. Dads bring home the money while moms tend the home. Such stereotypical and myopic view or perception of the traditional family still exists, and they continue to apply in today’s patriarchal society. Father’s Day is essentially a celebration of the coming of age of the family patriarch. It is also a time to ponder upon the role and responsibility of fathers – via their unconditional sacrifice and contribution towards family, community and society. Although fathers generally do not show or display as much emotions when compared with mothers, but deep down they care just as much for their children and their loved ones. Father’s Day is also a great opportunity to reconcile any conflicts or differences with your old man, and to make it up to your family’s saviour and protector. Love and loyalty may not be highly rated in some father’s book, yet daddies deserve equal attention as mommies receive on Mother’s Day!
