Cityscape Global 2011 – an annual meeting point for key real estate players, driving growth across emerging markets globally.
The most anticipated international real estate event returned, marking its 10th year presence in Dubai. Drawing together the real estate industry from across the globe to converge, converse and do business, Cityscape Global 2011 played host to a total of 150 exhibitors from more than 28 countries at the Dubai International Exhibition and Conference Center.
The three-day event held at the end of September was officially inaugurated by His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, accompanied by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, CEO and Chairman of the Emirates Group, Chairman of Dubai World and President of the Department of Civil Aviation. Together with Rohan Marwaha, Managing Director of Cityscape, HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum took a tour of the event which saw exhibitors showcasing their latest projects and upcoming developments, the finest there is from around the world.
“It is a fantastic achievement for us to be celebrating the tenth edition of this event in Dubai, and we believe that this year will provide an ideal platform to address the challenges of the industry,” said Rohan Mawarha. He added that international exhibitors represent more than 50% of total participation this year and Dubai has grown to become recognized as one of the leading international cities to do business ideally located as a bridge between emerging and mature markets.
The opening day also saw the commencement of several of the conference sessions, including Retail City, Global Real Estate Seminars and the World Architecture Congress (WAC), with some of the most respected industry experts taking part in discussions and providing insider knowledge across a range of current hot topics.
His Excellency Engineer Hussain Nasser Lootah gave the opening keynote speech at the Future Cities conference, taking the audience through the vision for Dubai over the upcoming 30 years. Asil Attar, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Fashion presented the opening session of Retail City, discussing the elevation of retail in the Middle East, with Henning Stüben, Partner and Director for JDS Architects Copenhagen kicking off WAC with insight into the creation of iconic, yet sustainable, structures.
The first of the Global Real Estate Seminars saw Dubai Land Department, Dubai Properties Group, DAMAC and Diamond Developers come together to discuss the outlook for 2012, predicting trends, sectors for growth and opportunity during the next 12 months.
In addition to the unveiling of several outstanding developments at Cityscape, the real estate industry also discussed some of the most pertinent topics affecting the sector at present, with sustainability taking center stage. Addressing the real estate community, Dr Nawal Al-Hosany, Associate Director of sustainability at Masdar UAE said that “sustainability has to be incorporated at the early stages of your design process and you have to have an integrated approach…focus on the passive measures; this is key to your success.”
Also taking place on Cityscape’s opening day was the presentation of the Retail City Awards and the Cityscape Awards for Architecture in Emerging Markets gala dinner.
The next Cityscape appearance will be Cityscape Riyadh, to be held from the 11 to 13 December 2011 at the Riyadh Exhibition Center (Next to Saudi Arabian Airlines Office) on King Fahad Road under the theme: Building Business in the Kingdom. HRH Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz, Special Adviser to the Emir of Riyadh, has graciously consented to be patron of this year’s event, and to offer all aspects of support for the exhibition to make it a success. The three day event, dubbed also as The Riyadh International Urban Development and Real Estate Investment Event has the official support and participation of Arriyadh Development Authority.
