LOHAS is an acronym for Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability. It is a US$355 billion market segment in the United States with a concept focused on health, the environment, personal development, social justice and sustainable living that started about 10 years ago.
Coined by the Natural Marketing Institute, this concept has already caught on around the world, implemented in developments and is a major hit with the masses. It was originally a market research acronym but has evolved into a social movement in America.
LOHAS is implemented differently in Asia though; while it is a psychographic in the US, it is a brand in Asia which focuses on the product itself to deliver LOHAS to the people. Countries like Japan and Taiwan have found that many have included LOHAS in their checklist when on the prowl for properties.
