Recognizing and rewarding projects in Iskandar Malaysia via TIMA
JOHOR BAHRU, May 8 – Iskandar Regional Development Authority will be organizing The Iskandar Malaysia Accolades (TIMA) Award Ceremony 2017. This is another initiative in conjunction with Iskandar Malaysia 10th Anniversary (IM10) year-long celebration, which was launched by YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, Prime Minister of Malaysia in December 2016.
This inaugural award is conceived to recognize and reward projects that have contributed towards enhancing the quality of life in Iskandar Malaysia, and are in line with the Iskandar Malaysia vision and objectives specifically in relation to sustainability and social equity.
Highlights of today’s press conference include the upcoming TIMA – The Iskandar Malaysia Accolades 2016/17 entitled “Forum and Awards Ceremony”. Among the panel of speakers are Datuk Ismail Ibrahim (Chief Executive, IRDA), Sr. Khaidzir Abdul Rasip (Vice-President, Urban Observatory, IRDA), En. Abdul Rashid Abdul Majid (Senior Vice-President, Strategic Human Resource, Iskandar Investment Berhad) as well as Mr. Eddie Tan (Managing Director, TTIEN Media Group Sdn Bhd). The award ceremony will be held on Monday, 15 May 2017 from 4pm – 10pm at Jen Hotel, Puteri Harbour, Johor Bahru. (L-R): Mr. Eddie Tan (Managing Director, TTIEN Media Group), Datuk Ismail Ibrahim (Chief Executive, IRDA), En. Abdul Rashid Abdul Majid (Senior Vice-President, Strategic Human Resource, Iskandar Investment Berhad), and Sr. Khaidzir Abdul Rasip (Vice-President, Urban Observatory, IRDA)
Its Chief Executive, Datuk Ismail Ibrahim said that the inaugural TIMA accolades would be special and unique in its approach towards the awards as it takes into account the different viewpoints and varied perspectives of the community, as well as issues of public interest rather than just the proprietors or project owners. The biennial Accolades is an IRDA-led initiative which highlights Iskandar Malaysia as a future smart city under Iskandar Malaysia Property Action (IMPACT) group.
“The nomination is open to both local and foreign companies and corporations, and we are quite open in our selection of the nominees. There is no discrimination whatsoever as we do not favour any particular developer, simply because they are a multinational corporation (MNC), or some other firms with huge investments and enormous corporate resources. Even though they are a big company, it does not necessarily mean that they are entitled to this award. A project from a local developer might as well be selected simply because of the criteria that have been put in place, and based upon our vetting or screening process,” he told the press.
Datuk Ismail also added that a mix of foreign and local projects would ultimately bring forth a chance for both parties to exchange knowledge and information with regards to local and international standards that have been universally acknowledged and accepted. “The awards will only be given to completed projects (at least by phases) that have been operating for at least a minimum of one year.”
The award presentation ceremony will be officiated by YAB Dato’ Mohamed Khaled Nordin, the Menteri Besar of Johor.
