Its Chief Executive, Datuk Ismail Ibrahim said that the inaugural TIMA accolades would be special and unique in its approach towards the awards as it takes into account the different viewpoints and varied perspectives of the community, as well as issues of public interest rather than just the proprietors or project owners. The biennial Accolades is an IRDA-led initiative which highlights Iskandar Malaysia as a future smart city under Iskandar Malaysia Property Action (IMPACT) group.

The nomination is open to both local and foreign companies and corporations, and we are quite open in our selection of the nominees. There is no discrimination whatsoever as we do not favour any particular developer, simply because they are a multinational corporation (MNC), or some other firms with huge investments and enormous corporate resources. Even though they are a big company, it does not necessarily mean that they are entitled to this award. A project from a local developer might as well be selected simply because of the criteria that have been put in place, and based upon our vetting or screening process,” he told the press.

Datuk Ismail also added that a mix of foreign and local projects would ultimately bring forth a chance for both parties to exchange knowledge and information with regards to local and international standards that have been universally acknowledged and accepted. “The awards will only be given to completed projects (at least by phases) that have been operating for at least a minimum of one year.”
