October 15 was a date to remember as the Malaysia Property Award 2011 rounded the corner yet again to celebrate excellence in the nation’s real estate industry – at its 19th Award Ceremony year. Held at the One World Hotel in Bandar Utama, Selangor, the gala event organized by FIABCI Malaysia was graced by the presence of His Royal Highness the Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin ibni Al-Marhum Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail and his consort Her Royal Highness the Raja Perempuan Perlis Tuanku Fauziah binti Al-Marhum Tengku Abdul Rashid.

The night was well on its way after speeches from Organizing Chairman, Dr Yu Kee Su and FIABCI Malaysia President, Ir Yeow Thit Sang. Dinner was served soon after with live music entertaining guests who included some of the big names in the real-estate industry.

As the evening progressed, it was finally time to unveil the winners of this year’s Awards. FIABCI President Yeow mentioned earlier in his speech that the 63 quality entries received for the various categories made it a difficult process for the judges. The environmental factor especially, on many occasions, was a deciding criterion. The prestigious awards were presented by His Royal Highness the Raja of Perlis to the winners.

Dato’ Dr Jennifer Low, JP from Quill Group of Companies made history and was named Property Woman of the Year, the first female to have conferred such accolade since inception of the Award. Her company also received another feather in the cap in the Office Category for the Quill 6 development in Kuala Lumpur, which is today the home to global banking giant HSBC. Among her notable success from starting off as an interior designer include the interior fit-out for banks and insurance companies in the country, pioneering commercial offices in Cyberjaya when the concept city was first mooted, partnering real estate giant Capitaland to form Quill Capital Trust to dealership of premier automobiles, Rolls Royce.

It was certainly a good night too for UEM Land Bhd, winning the Master Plan Category with their grand Nusajaya project in Johor while sister company Sunrise Bhd raked in a win as well with 10 Mont’ Kiara – named joint-winner in the High Rise Residential Category with Infinity Beachfront Condominium by Hunza Properties Bhd. The night was made sweeter for UEM as Dato’ Wan Abdullah Wan Ibrahim received the award for Property CEO, and bringing the night to a climax with a moving speech when he thanked the UEM Board of Directors, fellow staff and the overall UEM family. He was again overcome by emotions when honoring his wife and children for supporting his professional journey all these years.

All winners from the night will be representing the nation as they take a global step forward to the FIABCI Prix d’ Excellence Award to compete with the rest of the bests in the world.
