BlueScope Steel Supports PAM’s Mission To Promote Architectural Quality

BlueScope Steel Malaysia has today inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM) to support the Institute’s continuous efforts to promote architectural quality.

BlueScope Steel, Malaysia is part of BlueScope Steel Limited, which is Australia’s leading supplier of premium metallic coated and painted steel building products, and one of the world’s largest manufacturers of pre-engineered steel buildings (PEBs).

While BlueScope Steel, Malaysia’s partnership with PAM has been ongoing for nearly a decade now through its support and active involvement in PAM’s activities, the MoU would provide a significant platform for greater collaboration between the two parties.

BlueScope Steel, Malaysia’s President for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, Mr Somkiat Pintatham said that the company has deep respect for architects as they are the custodians of our heritage of architectural forms and spaces as well as the creators of tomorrow’s heritage.

“Our commitment to them is to continue to support their work with our high quality and reliable building products while innovating on new knowledge of design and green sustainability.

“The MoU with PAM signifies our long-term commitment in offering continuous resource support towards capacity building for this community,” said Mr Pintatham.

Being part of a global steel conglomerate, BlueScope Steel, Malaysia intends to leverage on its international network to bring in foreign expertise to share their knowledge and skills on the latest architectural developments with practicing architects and students be it on building innovation and trends, design or materials.

Other activities that are in the pipeline include design competitions, lecture series and steel architecture awards.

To date, BlueScope Steel, Malaysia has been actively involved with PAM in their Continuous Professional Development (CPD) seminars, architecture biennale and exhibitions.

“Come July this year, the company will once again be sponsoring PAM’s International Architectural Design Conference in Kuala Lumpur for the ninth consecutive year,” said Mr Pintatham.

He said that BlueScope Steel, Malaysia has been supporting this event since its inception in 2003.

The International Architectural Design Conference is part of the month-long Datum: KL – Kuala Lumpur Architecture Festival 2011, which BlueScope Steel, Malaysia is also a main partner of. The festival promises an exciting calendar of events which includes industry-related forums, architectural workshops, tours, exhibitions and the internationally renowned ARCHIDEX trade show.

PAM’s president Ar. Boon Che Wee is delighted that BlueScope Steel, Malaysia has taken this pro-active step to partner PAM in its efforts to promote architectural excellence in Malaysia to the next level especially in design and green sustainability.
