Rise of Donald Trump and quest to make America great again!
The Republican presidential nominee and front-runner, Donald J. Trump who is a billionaire self-styled saviour of Americans with a monumental ego to match, has certainly come of age. His campaign rallies typically command enormous crowds, usually comprising tens of thousands of attendees and spectators. The majority of patriotic citizens making up the bulk of tireless working-class Americans have continually toiled and suffered under Barack Obama’s eight-year administration. The US presidential election was widely expected to see the country making history by putting its first female president in the White House since proclaiming independence some 240 years ago. As the votes were counted and the results poured in, it was Donald Trump who led all the way to the finishing line in a sweet and stunning victory over Hillary Rodham Clinton. Virtually all public opinion polls which had predicted Clinton to plough through towards the closing stages of the US general elections, had failed and faltered miserably. All signs showed that the final results were just too close to call. But then it was Trump all the way home!

Make America Great Again
It is one man’s personal mission to “Make America Great Again”, and one woman’s political endeavour to become America’s first ever female President. Donald Trump, the David in politics who took on the Goliath herself, Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. It all started from his announcement in mid-2015 that he was running for the White House, which many had regarded as a joke or prank of sorts. Donald was eventually taken seriously after beating all eleven Republican candidates to secure an RNC ticket to face-off with Hillary during the grueling three-segment no-holds-barred Presidential debates. In retrospect, Clinton had already run for the presidency under the Democratic ticket back in 2008 when she lost the DNC nomination to Barack Obama. Obama later went on to become America’s first ever black President, and remained President for a second term in office after defeating Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential elections. Hillary’s second attempt at the presidency after a four-year hiatus saw her come back stronger as ever, as evident in her campaign slogan, “Stronger Together”. Going up against a politically unknown candidate such as Trump, who appears to be a more formidable opponent compared to Obama, has presented the Democratic Party with untold challenges as well as his humourous one-liners sic. Trump offers himself as an alternative candidate to battle pro-establishment lobbies and special interest groups aligned to Wall Street, by appealing and endearing himself to the working middle-class population who have long grown weary of the corrupt political system, the escalating cost of living, rampant crime associated with illegal immigrants, as well as exorbitant premiums under Obamacare – an overrated healthcare insurance plan and package initiated by the Obama administration. An advocate and proponent of being “the first jobs president” of corporate America, Donald Trump has repeatedly vowed to bring back jobs from abroad, particularly from Mexico, China and Japan. “I am definitely a different look. I’m not prepackaged. I’m not plastic. I’m not scripted. And I’m not handled.” (‘The America We Deserve’ – 2000)
Throughout the campaign trails of both party candidates, the never-ending negative rhetoric, publicity stunts, racial slurs, sexist remarks and Twitter wars, have all but psyched up voters to cast their ballots for their respective state constituencies last November 9th. Gutter politics have indeed taken on new meaning with this presidential election. The often aloof and abrasive nature of Trump himself, has even threatened to put Clinton in jail over her private email server scandal. In addition, her handling of the now infamous Benghazi military crisis, as well as foreign policies associated with Syrian refugees and ISIS terrorists left the American public much to be desired. Also mired in controversy is the purportedly philanthropic themed or concept of The Clinton Foundation, which funds charitable causes and social programs, has allegedly received undisclosed or unverified sums of foreign donations as well as campaign contributions for her ill-fated campaign. Constant allegations of corrupt practices and money-laundering activities have also painted a shady image of the Clinton campaign as perhaps the shadiest and slimiest in America’s entire election as well as political history.
But the most controversial issue of all was Mr. Trump’s call-to-arm to erect a physical barrier or wall along the southern border of Mexico, with the cost of building and constructing the wall to be fully borne by the Mexican government. Even more shocking is his seemingly serious threat to ban Muslims from entering America if he was elected. Illegal immigrants will be outlawed, undocumented aliens deported and cross-border security fortified. Entire Muslim populations worldwide will be waiting and watching his every move with bated breath if he would actually carry out his affirmative-action border plans upon taking office.
Even though Hillary Clinton clinched the popular vote during the final count, the electoral colleges favoured Donald Trump to win. Mr. Trump’s casual persona and down-to-earth mannerism resonated (or struck a chord) with the voters. Telling it as it is, or simply saying the plain truth, is definitely one of Trump’s greatest traits or assets. Mrs. Clinton may possess the better judgement, cooler temperament as well as greater experience on paper, but it is the charisma, charm and coolness of ‘The Donald’ that prevails with American voters. Even with over four decades in public service as a Senator, a First Lady, and as Secretary of State, much of the hopes and dreams of electing a female president to the White House evaporated with the election results skewed towards the maverick Republican. Naturally, the vast majority of women in America would want to see a woman become President of the USA, and to vote and elect their own gender to the Oval Office. Imagine what it would be like having some of the world’s most powerful nations being led by an elite class of tough-as-nails “iron women”, chief among them being Germany’s Angela Merkel and Britain’s Theresa May. Also, a female presidential candidate or nominee in America has yet to break the so-called ‘presidential glass-ceiling’ in the course of its 240-year long history. May be Michelle Obama, or Ivanka Trump?
Political Correctness vs The Truth
But in politics, logic does not always work and that is why it is called the art of the impossibility. Many would tend to believe that among other reasons, Trump, who has never held any public office, had won because of his pledge to close America’s borders against illegal immigrants. Just as the Brexit referendum earlier this year in Britain was successful on the immigration issue or the notion that the country would be better able to control migrants upon leaving the European Union. Trump has indeed pulled off what has been described as the most incredible political feat in any American’s lifetime. The Trump camp also has unanimous and undivided support including various political endorsements from top military brass, army officials, war veterans, first responders, emergency & medical, fire-and-rescue, maritime security, park rangers, border patrols, and police personnel.
He has also galvanized much needed support for Republicans with the party dominating both the House and the Senate, which means Trump will now preside over the most powerful White House ever in American history. All over the world, particularly global stock market, reacted in utter disbelief to Trump’s shock win over Clinton as they attempt to dissect and digest how the maverick billionaire businessman and reality TV star with absolutely no political experience could emerge as the 45th president of United States. Trump’s victory had been totally unexpected since some startling revelations cropped up during the final weeks with several women claiming he had groped them – amidst locker-room chatter, and the ‘boys will be boys’ banter going viral. “Look at the solutions, not just the problems. If you’re going to be thinking anyway, you might as well think big. Go big, or go home!” (‘Think Big and Kick Ass in Business and Life” – 2007)
Shortly after Trump had clinched the 270-vote electoral college minimum mark needed to win the US presidency. Trump eventually won by a massive margin of votes, thanks to a huge surge of last-minute voter turnout by blue-collar workers who were simply fed up of the status quo and had wanted a real change in the broken political system. The long-standing indifference and feud between the mainstream media have ironically vindicated Trump with respect to his shocking upset of Clinton. Prior to the historic victory, many media pundits and endless exit polls have consistently predicted that Hillary would clinch the presidency with ease. Nonetheless, it is still far too early to tell or ascertain what form would a Trump presidency and administration take, and more importantly if he would opt for the same kind of persona and temperament we had all witnessed throughout a divisive campaign with his aggressive stance on diverse issues. Despite the many setbacks and shortcomings, this election has been a rollercoaster ride like no other in recent memory, or even comparable to any other past elections within anyone’s wildest imagination. For all of Trump’s greatest achievements and unlimited successes, he remains true to his ideals – his words often represent his mantra, and his actions always speak for themselves. True success is measured not by how much one plans and undertakes, but by how well one attains and anticipates. Cheers and congratulations to Donald Trump for an amazing run, and a much deserved win over Hillary Clinton. We now anxiously await his official presidential inauguration come Jan 19, 2017. Time to make America great again!
