Your Handy Fire Extinguisher
The first three minutes is the best time to extinguish a fire before it turns into a disaster. But how many would know what needs to be done; if your kids or parents know how to operate a fire extinguisher; or whether the fire brigade would reach in time? How much can you afford to lose if a fire occurs?
“Within the first three months (January to March) of 2009 alone there have been a total of 9119 fire incidents in Malaysia, accounting for 21 fatalities and RM235 million worth of goods and properties damaged,” exclaims Zenith Tay, Brand Director of Bonex Malaysia, during a fire prevention and safety demonstration held recently at Bayu Tasik 2 Condo, Bandar Sri Permaisuri, Kuala Lumpur.
This demonstration, according to Zenith, is to help create awareness about fire safety and prevention among the residents of Bayu Tasik 2 Condo, at the same time, introducing two very user-friendly fire extinguishers – the SAT119 and the Cooking Oil Extinguisher (COE).
The user-friendliness of these two products stem from how these can be used easily by children, women, the elderly and the physically challenged. No training is required.
You can use the SAT119 in two methods. You can either dilute it with eight liters of water to extinguish a fire, or just throw the SAT119 toward the direction of the fire and evacuate the scene. The effectiveness of diluting the SAT119 can be compared to using the 9kg conventional extinguisher, only lighter. The COE works effectively when cooking fire becomes unmanageable, when oil burns up to 370 degree Celsius. Just drop a sachet of COE into the pan after switching off the stove.
“Both are eco-friendly and non-toxic products as they are made of food additives and commercial fertilizers,” says Zenith, adding that Korea has enacted its fire safety law in 2006 making it mandatory to install the “throwing fire extinguishing tool” at all facilities for infant, children and the elderly. The SAT119 has also obtained the NS Japan and KFI Korea safety certification.
Unlike the conventional 9kg fire extinguisher and the aerosol type of extinguisher, the SAT119 and the COE can be cleaned easily after the fire is out and they do not stain like the conventional and aerosol type do.
Both the SAT119 and the COE cost RM250.00 and RM89.90 (for two sachets), respectively, and each comes with a five-year lifespan. For more information, visit www.malaysiafireextinguisher.com or call 603 – 9171 7845.
